Infant Baptism

Mission Statement:
Infant Baptism Preparation is a period of time before and/or after the birth of a child during which parents increase their understanding of the meaning of the sacrament of Baptism within the context of the Parish Community. An evening preparation session allows parents and godparents who are considering the baptism of a child to discuss the history of the Sacrament, the importance of its symbolism and their own personal experiences and feelings about the Sacrament. The purpose of this session is two-fold: (1) to give parents the opportunity to sort out their own faith commitment and begin/continue to develop a mature understanding of what it means to be Christians and members of a Catholic community of faith, and (2) to help parents become familiar with the baptismal ceremony so they can move through it comfortably.

Session leaders will share their own experience of their child's celebration of the sacrament of Baptism and also their experiences in living out the Baptismal instruction "to be the primary religious educators" especially during the important time between Baptism and Eucharist.
