RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

Mission Statement:
As ministers in the RCIA process, we understand and believe that the initiation of adults is the responsibility of all the baptized. We are therefore committed to be always ready to welcome the unbaptized, and the baptized Christian seeking full communion with the Catholic Church. While walking with these candidates and catechumens on their faith journey, we pursue our apostolic vocation by reflecting on the value of the Paschal Mystery and renew our own conversion as we introduce them to the sacramental life of the Church, the liturgical assembly and in particular the Eucharistic banquet.

A Catechist leads catechetical sessions and assists at ritual celebrations. A Sponsor attends catechetical sessions, represents the parish community at ritual celebrations. Both the Catechist and Sponsor accompany the candidates and catechumens on their faith journey to the Sacrament of Initiation and share their own faith story by word and example.

The time commitment for a Catechist is 1½ hours per session- once every 5-6 weeks for adults and once a month for children. Also, individual preparation time for catechetical sessions will vary and will include reading scriptures and the Catechist Manual as well as praying and reflecting on preparation.

The time commitment for a Sponsor is 1 hour per week through duration of sponsorship. Also, individual preparation time will vary and will include reading scriptures as well as praying and reflecting on preparation.

Vision Statement:
Throughout 2005, we will use various means to educate the entire parish in the roles we all should play in the process of initiation. Our goal is to increase the numbers of adult and children's catechists and sponsors to our team through discernment of the gifts and talents in the members of our community.
